TABLETOP MAGIC: JANUARY 2023

A 5 WEEK WORKSHOP FOR STILL LIFE PHOTOGRAPHY

WE ARE BACK AGAIN WITH ANOTHER FREE WORKSHOP!

The first assignment will go live on Thursday, January 19, 2023.

You will have one week to product the image, and it must be posted by 3 PM Pacific on the day of the show, 1-26-2023.

Each additional assignment will go live on Thursday mornings, so you will always have a week to produce the photo.

This one will be focusing on the tabletop. Twelve to sixteen square feet to work our magic.

We will be focusing on particular approaches to still life. We will cover lighting, composition, framing, and post-processing techniques.

Your images may be used for examples, and in further courses offered here. If that is a problem, you should reconsider the class. All images used will be accredited to the photographer.

TERMS:

  • There is no signup.
  • There is no CC.
  • There is no Email list.
  • There is no funnel.
  • There is nothing for sale.

You either show up for the class or you do not.

Just like in real life.

The first class will go up on January 19, and the first live class is January 26, 2023

You will have one week to make the photograph.
You MUST get it into the Facebook Group Album BEFORE the critique starts (make it 3 PM to be sure.)

Late entries may not be critiqued.

Our first live critique will be on Thursday, January 26, 2023 when we will review the images from our first class.
The next assignment will go live that day or sooner.

There will be five assignments focused on working on a still-life table. We will cover:
  • Composition
  • Texture
  • Designing a shot
  • Studio Lighting
  • Props
  • Color
  • Liquids
  • Translucence
  • Post Processing Basics
  • Presentation Options
You must be a member of this Facebook Community Page – it is where we critique the work.

Dust off your lights, get the tripod oiled and make sure you know where your boom is…

YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING GEAR:

  • A tabletop approximately 4 feet by 4 feet. You can use plywood on sawhorses, one of my favorite tables.
  • A boom for getting a light above the set.
  • A good tripod.
  • At least a few stands for additional lights and bounce cards.
  • A camera with a normal lens (50MM on a full-frame or equivalent)
  • Strobes or continuous lights (speed lights are acceptable as are LED’s)
  • Working knowledge of exposure and lighting.
  • Software for processing the images (LR, C1, PShop, Affinity)
  • Time to devote at least 3-4 hours per week to get the shot.
  • A strong desire to learn how to shoot on the table.
  • Great attitude and friendly disposition – we have a lot of fun.

The assignments will be given out 1 week before they are due.

Critiques are live on ZOOM. Please have a good connection, microphone, and speakers so you can be a part of the critique. We will record the critiques for later viewing.

The best way to stay informed on this fun and important workshop is to join the Facebook Group as soon as possible.
