I have been recovering and walking… lots of walking. The immediate neighborhood is of course the most logical place, so I traverse the streets around my home a couple of times per day.
When my friend Antony Northcutt asked to see some images from people’s neighborhoods and towns, I thought what the heck. I’m in.
At first I thought I would get some shots of Phoenix, but that idea went out the window… Phoenix is too vast a place to cover in a few images. I thought instead of shooting the things I see on my walks around my little part of this desert community.
So here you are Antony… a little slice of a little slice called Ahwatukee, Phoenix, Arizona.
(Technical: All images taken with a Nikon V1, 10-30MM lens and processed in Silver Effects. No further Pshop manipulations.)
- My street. Ahwatukee is in the desert south of Phoenix Metro
- My patio: Where I love to shoot and write when the weather is nice
- Cactus and desert plants are in abundance here, we like things that don’t use much water.
- Light, shape and shadow. A favorite subject
- The Saguaro Cactus only grows in Arizona. Permits are required to have them in your yard or garden
- City streets are mazes of tar ‘fixes’ for cracks. It doesn’t work, but makes for some great patterns. Cool city logo, eh…
- With tall trees come long shadows in the mornings. These small respites of shade are all to expect in this area
- Palm trees have their own beauty… texture and shape
- The ever-present sun – relentless and warm even in the winter
- Palm trees are the only thing that breaks the smoothness of the sky
- Mail is delivered to boxes these days… and our box has seen better times
- Shadows of roof lines and the serpentine meanderings of tar repair make interesting shapes for me to shoot
- Always on the lookout for graphical examples of repeated patterns… and yes, the road is angled down – this thing is a veritable river in a thunderstorm

Great photos–took me back home to New Mexico. I miss those clay roofs and stucco homes. Glad you are doing lots of walking these days.
So nice photos… really good shots. like them!
