IT’S TIME TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR PORTFOLIO

CREATING A
POWERFUL PORTFOLIO

Imagine, plan, and shoot a new portfolio, or discover the holes within your existing work. Either way, this class is designed to help you create a body of work that will help you achieve your goals in a tightly structured method.

the portfolio experience

A powerful portfolio is a photographer’s most essential tool
for attracting new clients and keeping old clients inspired.

Portfolio Research

Deciding what’s needed to do is job one. Finding holes or missing pieces is the first step to deciding on whether to build a new portfolio or add to an existing one.

Brand Continuity

A review of the current brand and style of the portfolio will lead us to what comes next. A uniform style may be vital to the work, or perhaps we add something new.

Creative Development

Planning to add a new portfolio element to your work means careful consideration and deliberate planning, whether adding to or creating a totally new set of photos.

Planning the Shoot

This is the deliberate work of finding props, models, gear, locations, assets, and people to help you create this work in a relatively short amount of time.

The Shoot

You will have five (5) weeks to shoot on your own. We will be available on the FB page for consulting and encouragement, and to cheer you on as you make images.

Review and Edit

We meet as a group one more time, then we do a one-on-one with you and I to review, edit, and create the flow of your new portfolio. This is an exciting time.

a huge opportunity to create something special

Working with a small group of highly talented and motivated people makes this a fantastic experience. I am there every step of the way. This is a LIVE class, not just recorded videos and PDF’s… although we have those as well.

Why we are different

Too many courses in portfolios are filled with platitudes and unexplained directions that are hard to put into action. We are distinctly deliberate. With personal reviews, critiques, and a generous portion of gentle butt-kicking we get you through this difficult process with a great understanding of what you will need to do next time.

And the time after that.

I have helped hundreds of photographers hone their skills, build powerful portfolios, and make a difference in their personal and professional work. This is a rare opportunity to be among a small group of enthusiastic photographers all focused on one thing… building a better portfolio.

Join us for 5 live webinars, and a one-on-one meeting with me where we take your new work and edit it into a good flow on your website or print book.

It takes a lot of imagination to be a good photographer. You need less imagination to be a painter because you can invent things. But in photography everything is so ordinary; it takes a lot of looking before you learn to see the extraordinary.

I have been a photographer for close to 50 years, and also owned and was the Creative Director of my own ad agency. I have sat on both sides of the hiring desk and know what it takes to turn an art directors eye. Having a vital, powerful, relevant, and credible portfolio is the most powerful tool a photographer has.

I have been working with and mentoring photographers for nearly 10 years and my web-based professional training class has helped dozens of photographers make the move to full-time shooters.

I have taught twice on CreativeLIVE, have several courses at UDEMY, and more on my YouTube Channel.

I can help you develop your portfolio, and I am ready to do that starting in June. I do hope you will join us.

The course was very helpful for me. I set up a deadline to complete one of my projects and with great help from the instructor, I did complete it. The instructor was absolutely incredible  – he noticed important details and helped with ideas as well not only execution. He was always ready to provide opinion and support. Also, looking at others’ student portfolio was very helpful to understand the principles how a portfolio should look like and how it works. Thank you for the great workshop.

I can’t say enough about Don’s portfolio class.  It was just what I needed to get myself moving.  We had a critique of our portfolio, identified gaps, and then we had a 4 week break to shoot new images.  Knowing that Don and the rest of the class were expecting me to produce something was just the motivation I needed to finally get the work done.  After shooting, Don’s feedback on ordering the images and presenting them in the best light was invaluable.  I’m thinking of taking the class again to move other parts of my portfolio along!

What I liked most about this Portfolio building class is that right off the bat you have to think and evaluate what you have and where you are going. Don provides direction and together you make a plan for the duration of the course. Then off you go and get to work! Weekly classes and support via email is available – so by the end of the course you have built with Don’s guidance and solid “brick” you can add to your portfolio. I would love to take this class again for the interaction — but I also know that I gleaned enough knowledge that I can apply on my own to keep creating new “bricks”.
