commercial photography side hustle

A Side Hustle You’ll Love

This class will give you the roadmap you need to get to work. No weddings, family portraits, baby photos, or birthday parties here. This is real commercial photography.

This Saturday, we get to work.
The Practical Commercial Photography Side-Hustle is a focused, no-nonsense class designed to help you turn your camera into real, dependable income. No studio. No complicated gear. No industry mythology. Just a clear system for creating clean, useful images that small businesses need — and will pay for.

This isn’t about becoming a “commercial photographer” overnight. It’s about building a smart side-hustle that fits your life. Over eight weeks, you’ll learn how to shoot, price, pitch, and deliver commercial work with confidence, using simple setups and repeatable workflows. If you’re ready to stop guessing and start building something practical, we start this Saturday.

Class One

Foundation & Lane Lock

This Class

Foundation & Lane Lock

Description:
This session resets how you think about commercial photography. We define what clients actually buy, establish the rules for building a professional portfolio, and lock in your Primary and Secondary lanes. From here on, every decision is intentional.

Focus:

  • Commercial mindset vs hobby mindset

  • Choosing your two lanes

  • Consistency over creativity

Assignment:
Create two images in your Primary lane using the same subject and setup. Focus on control and execution, not variation.

Class Two

The Home Studio

This Class

Market Fit & Execution

Description:
This week is about shooting like you’ve already been hired. We break down what makes an image usable to real clients and how photographers accidentally design themselves out of work. Refinement beats reinvention.

Focus:

  • Market-appropriate imagery

  • Improving images without changing concepts

  • Visual discipline

Assignment:
Create two images designed as a pair. Same subject, improved execution, cleaner intent.

Class Three

Editing/Select/Portfolio

This Class

Editing, Selection & Portfolio Shape

Description:
Strong portfolios are built through editing, not accumulation. This session focuses on how to choose, sequence, and remove images so your work feels intentional instead of random.

Focus:

  • Editing as strategy

  • Portfolio restraint

  • Sequencing basics

Assignment:
Replace two weaker images with stronger ones. Begin shaping a tight 8–12 image working portfolio.

Class Four

Positioning & Outreach

This Class

Positioning, Language & First Outreach

Description:
You can’t sell what you can’t explain. This session gives you the language to talk about your work clearly and professionally, then walks you through controlled, ethical outreach to potential clients.

Focus:

  • Positioning and clarity

  • Describing outcomes, not effort

  • Professional outreach

Assignment:
Create two portfolio images that reinforce your positioning. Draft and send 3–5 outreach emails using provided templates.

BONUS CLASS: THINKING ABOUT PRICING

BONUS CLASS: CLIENT OUTREACH & ACQUISITION

Class Five

Series Thinking / Depth

This Class

Series Thinking & Portfolio Depth

Description:
Clients think in sets, not singles. This week introduces series thinking and shows you how to extend your visual system without losing cohesion. Your Secondary lane enters the portfolio—carefully.

Focus:

  • Series logic

  • Cohesion and variation

  • Controlled range

Assignment:
Create one image in your Primary lane and one in your Secondary lane. Both must feel visually compatible.

Class Six

Pricing/Scope/”Yes”

This Class

Pricing, Scope & Paid-Ready Work

Description:
We get busy selling over the next two weeks.

Assignment: Do your outreach.

Class Seven

Follow Up/Workflow

This Class

Workflow, Follow-Up & Trust

Description:
Professionalism is felt in the process, not just the images. This week covers workflow, delivery, and follow-up—turning interest into repeat work.

Focus:

  • Client communication

  • Shoot-to-delivery flow

  • Follow-up strategies

Assignment:
Refine two existing portfolio images. Improve clarity, consistency, and presentation.

Class Eight

Lock-In/Going Forward

This Class

Lock-In & Forward Momentum

Description:
The final session is about stability and direction. We refine portfolios, identify what’s working, and build a simple plan for the next 30 days so the side hustle continues without chaos.

Focus:

  • Portfolio lock-in

  • Predictable momentum

  • Long-term habits

Assignment:
Final polish or substitution of two images.
Complete a 30-day action plan for continued outreach and portfolio growth.

I’m Don Giannatti

I am so glad you all are here. I believe this class will be one of the best I have ever done.

I’ve spent more than five decades working in photography, design, and advertising, and I still believe the most powerful images are the ones that actually do something. I teach photographers how to cut through the noise, simplify their process, and build work that’s practical, sustainable, and rewarding, without the drama or mythology that surrounds this industry.
