Using One Big Beautiful Light: Eight Assignments
In this workshop we will create a single large light scrim and use it to create eight different types of assignments. The incredible diversity that can be achieved with one single light is astounding. We will also explore window light, and large bounce sources for a variety of one light approaches.
We will create:
- Two Food Shots
- Two Product Shots
- Two Still Life Shots
- 2 Portrait Shots
And we will do them in several iterations.
By then end of the workshop you will have a complete understanding of how using one light can create many different and exciting looks.
All attendees recieve copies of both of my business book and workbook bundles included:

One Big Beautiful Light
Learn to master the most timeless lighting setup in photography — and make it your own.
Every great photograph begins with great light. In this 8-week virtual workshop, you’ll learn how to create depth, dimension, and emotion using just one big, beautiful light — the kind of soft, controlled source that turns ordinary subjects into extraordinary images. Whether it’s a scrim, a softbox, or a north-facing window, you’ll discover how to shape and direct light to make food, products, still lifes, and portraits truly come alive.
This isn’t theory or guesswork. It’s hands-on, practical instruction from a photographer who’s been teaching this craft for over a decade. Each Saturday morning, we meet live on Zoom to break down lighting setups, discuss creative strategy, and refine your shots in real time. You’ll shoot two food setups, two product scenes, two still lifes, and two portraits — each designed to stretch your technique and build confidence. Critiques are done live and recorded, so you can revisit every insight and demo anytime you like.
You’ll also get bonus materials every week: downloadable PDFs, behind-the-scenes lighting videos, and setup diagrams, to help you replicate the techniques in your own space. Don’t have a scrim? No problem. I’ll show you how to make one with simple materials and still get that gorgeous, diffused glow professionals rely on.
Enrollment is limited to ten photographers to keep the experience personal and interactive. If you’re ready to simplify your lighting, sharpen your eye, and start creating work that looks truly professional.
One Big Beautiful Light will get you there.
Two Food Assignments
We will explore using a large scrim and fill-boards, mirrors, and shiny foil to create images that will add new opportunities to your portfolio. We will also look at natural light solutions, with large, natural soft window light.
Two Product Assignments
Yes, you can shoot products with one large light. From jewelry to electronics to kitchen tools, one large light can be used to create an incredible variety of looks. A judicious use of fill cards and reflectors can turn one light into a power house of possibilities.
Two Still Life Assignments
Still life encompasses every sort of approach and subject matter done as storytelling with light. From floral arrangements to sculpture and art, to creating moods for brands as diverse as the imagnination, still life is an exciting genre.
Two Portrait Assignments
Photographing people with one light has been a classic approach for as long as the camera has been around. We are going to explore a few ways to use and modify one large light to create a nyriad of looks. Our focus will be to create from mild to wild with the same light. This will be fun.
One Big Beautiful Light
Learn to create stunning images with a single soft light.
Over eight weeks, you’ll master the art of using one big, beautiful light — a window, a scrim, or a softbox — to shape food, products, still lifes, and portraits with clarity and emotion.
