A FASHION APPROACH
Let’s look at the genre of fashion photography. And as genres go, it is super wide and extremely inclusive.
Fashion is about the look, and that goes for fashion photography too. That means that no technique, no lighting, no post processing is off limits in this vision-forward genre.
To the right is a list of fashion photographers who shoot mostly in black and white. Take a look at their work and be inspired.
Below is a contact sheet of Bri standing on the red rocks over the edge of Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado. I loved the late afternoon light, and motioned for her to do some posing up against that bright blue sky.
BRI ON THE EDGE
I motioned for Bri to give me some looks on that bright ledge of sandstone.
BRI DANCING
In this shot that I did for the Learn to Use a Lightmeter Class, I had Bri on one of my favorite streets downtown Phoenix. 4th Ave and Madison. Great light from a building to my back, and a two story iron wall to create the background.

If you are unable to find a model, use a friend, relative, or someone off the street that you beg to model for you… heh.
Kidnapping people you want to photograph is NEVER a good idea.
Try Craigslist, Model Mayhem, One Model Place, or your local high school.
