Hey Hot Shot is a photo competition held by the Jen Bekman Gallery in New York. Featuring the work of up and coming photographers, the competition introduces new ways of seeing to an ever widening audience.
It is certainly one place to go on the internet to see work that may surprise. shock, confuse and delight you. From tranquil to bizarre, photographers working in the ‘fine art’ field deliver a wide variety of interest.
I love to visit on beautiful Sunday mornings like this one.

We are thrilled to announce that Laura Plageman is our Grand Prize-winning photographer! Laura will receive $10,000, in addition to a solo exhibition at Jen Bekman Gallery and two years of representation from the gallery. WordPress has become my new obsession.
I am busy learning a lot of new stuff in design and web, and WordPress is at the top of my list. I like the ease of use, the fantastic opportunity it gives my clients to keep their site fresh and exciting, and the powerful new layout options.
In fact, I like it so much, I am devoting a website to WordPress Themes for Photographers. I hope to keep it updated with the stuff that fascinates me, as well as to be of interest to photographers and designers who are considering using WordPress for their sites.
I have never much cared for Flash, always preferring a more ‘pure’ web experience. I always felt that Flash was a compromise made as a consideration toward print design – and I do not consider the web to be print. Web-centric design is what makes me smile.
Online brochures with spinning logos – not so much.
It’s a brand new site, but we have a few designs and a newsletter template that may interest you. We will be linking to tutorials, widgets, plugins and all things WordPress with an eye toward what works for photographers and designers.
What do Handmade Drums and Photography have to do with each other?
Well, for one they are beautiful to behold. Drums are such interesting instruments. They combine aesthetics with technology, and require the player to physically interface.
Unlike most other instruments where the player is involved in creating the sound 90% of the time, a drummer spends more than 90% of the time NOT making sound, but rather with the sticks “in the air”. Striking a drum head is but a tiny sliver of time, and the rest is spent with the stick at the ready.
Photography is the same way. We spend most of the time with the camera at the ready, snapping the shutter with tiny fractions of time.
A bud has a set of these hand-made drums, and they have such a wonderful sound.
In a world full of mass-produced drums, Jalapeno Drums stand out as a shining jewel, offering the customer complete customization combined with hand-made individuality. Now in it’s tenth year of trading, each and every drum is still lovingly hand-crafted, to order, by drummer / craftsman David Nuttall: an Englishman who is as passionate about building drums as you are about playing them!
Do you feel that way about your photography? Are you passionate enough to want to make every image a “shining jewel”? There are a lot of drums in the world, but very few “Jalapeno” sets. There are a lot of photographers in the world, but very few… ya know.
It is, as I said, a beautiful Sunday morning at my house. Gonna be a hot one today, but the morning is very pleasant. A good time to listen to some good jazz music. I have an idea, while these YouTube videos play, hop on over to Hey Hot Shot and view some great photography.
