Some interesting advice Briana...Really interesting. I always let the model express herself after she or he has been briefed bout the theme of the shoot. Makes for a much more fluid experience. But then again, one needs a top notch model to make the images convincing and no matter how well the model expresses themselves, if they are not up to the standards expected, it best they consider figurant (extra) roles or lifesyle people character photography. They are personalities for anything other than fashion.

Big fan in general, but I definitely have felt that lately I need to be stepping outside my comfort zone a bit. I think this article is that push that I need to start trying new things. Thanks for this.

I totally agree!

When speaking of professionals or amateurs the common factor should be trust.

The problem is that at some levels you dont deal with people who know how to trust, or even they should trust. It's then when it becomes hard getting a good team result.

But in the other hand I've deffinetly noticed the advantages of trusting my models, due to Im 99% of times the photographer I've realized that when I get to make my models trust it's where magic begins. So for me... is that trust is magic and magic shows great team work.

Cheers Briana... nice to read you again.

Amen to this, trust, inclusion, allowing the people involved to make suggestions and being spontaneous are a great way to do a better ambient to work and to allow creativity to flow, if there´s no trust then there are bad vibes and that ruins everything!. I like to shot the safe (in the baseball sense) photos and then try stuff out of the box! it is fun :)

Thanks a lot Bri! great article :D.

Thanks for the insight from the other side of the camera. Since I am returning to photography from a long hiatus, things have changed so much technically that , people often forget the basic importance of the model/photographer relationship... I'll definitely keep this article link in my favorites.

I had to read this twice for it to really sink in what you were saying. When taking pictures I am not a super controlling kind of person, I like the model to be free to try things, just as I like to be free to try things. Sometimes they work, other times they don\'t.. but you always end up with something different and new.

Great article and I love your writing style, very easy to read. Looking forward to more!
