Tulips on 8×10

8×10 Deardorff with 350mm lens, F32. Lighting is simple: Large double scrim on camera right with a medium box behind it. Two white cards angled from the back on both sides and just out of camera. A very thin bright card is just to the left of frame and is giving the highlight you see on shadow side glass. I kept the light low so as to light the bottom of the buds and didn’t add light to the top of the image so the flowers have a bit more ‘mystery to them. This set including lights is less than 2.5 ft wide. Everything is close.

Polaroid was used to position and tweak lights, and the flowers were spritzed with a mixture of gelatin and water just before exposure.

E6 film developed normally. Scanned on Epson. No Photoshop other than sharpening.

We always have fun in this seminar, and we make sure that the learning experience is deep. Many photographers have stated that they learned more about photography in this workshop than in several years of working on their own.

Every participant will get a copy of my recently released DVD titled "Lighting Essentials 1 - How to create professional lighting for under $100."
